Closed eyes
In this series I painted ghost landscapes, scattered stones, undefined open scenery, banded eyes figures.. Figures with eyes covered – meaning blindness – groping, searching, and floundering after precious stones, after the infinite and un-present. What is a blindfolded woman doing under a tree ,offering a fruit? What is happening to the blind artist lying down next to drifting palette? What is a woman or a man with a telescope doing in a desert spaces? And what is banded eyes man doing with a bird in open field? What is a woman doing, holding here hands in front of you? And were is the path of a sunflowers field leads to? What is a tied hand boy do in a corner of undefined space?
Is the blindness of the figures my own, when I realize my futility in facing the limits of the medium of painting? And is the activity of the figures that I am painting aimed at preventing any possible destruction, or is it perhaps to repair a complete devastation that has already come to pass? Will a new light twinkle in the darkness?
The conscious choice of the painting's platform (oil on calque parchment paper) in some of my works ,(water color on paper), is a statement concerning the guiding hand of providence. In these works I load oil or watercolor on the paper until it cannot take anymore and I lose control of the result. The works on canvas are painting and erasing layers ,just as a blind man tries to search his way in the city forest.
The painting is created by means of a search and the search for a new mental reality is accomplished through painting.
